On Wednesday Governor Larry Hogan amended his previous order allowing the reopening of certain additional businesses and facilities, while remaining in Stage One of the Road to Recovery.

Most of the restrictions that will be lifted effective as of 5 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2020, involve outdoor activities. Approved activities, with specific limits and requirements for each, include outdoor dining, youth sports, youth day camps, outdoor swimming pools, drive-in movie theaters, and tour boats.

Restaurants, as well as social organizations such as American Legions, VFWs, and Elks Clubs, will be able to begin safely reopening for outdoor dining following strict public health requirements.

Restaurants must:

  • Ensure patrons are appropriately distanced with no more than six people seated at a table, with the exception of members of the same household.
  • Ensure patrons are seated at least six feet away from each other, except for households seated together.
  • Use single-use disposable paper menus or sanitize reusable menus between each seating.
  • Sanitize outdoor tables and chairs between each customer seating.
  • Train staff in the current CDC COVID-19 health and workplace guidelines.
  • Begin screening procedures including daily temperature checks of all staff.
  • Ensure staff wear masks or face coverings when interacting with other employees or patrons.

Also as part of the completion of Stage One, the Governor has allowed limited additional outdoor activities. Youth sports practices with limited contact and outdoor activities at youth day camps may reopen with group size limitations. Outdoor pools may also reopen with patrons required to sign in and sign out to manage a 25% limited capacity. Drive-in movie theaters will also be allowed to reopen on Friday.

Governor Hogan continues to stress the importance of staying home as much as possible, avoiding crowds of people, teleworking when possible, practicing physical distancing, wearing masks in indoor public areas, and avoiding public transportation unless it is absolutely necessary.
