During May, Southern High School’s Youth in Action Team promoted Alcohol and Drug-Free Prom and Graduation with prevention messages in school, at prom, and at after-prom. On June 3rd they will continue their messages at graduation. Youth in Action (YIA) is a group of peer-to-peer student prevention leaders in the high school who are sponsored by the Garrett County Health Department. “We want all our students to have a fun time while staying away from alcohol and other drugs,” said Linda Costello, YIA Advisor and Prevention Specialist. “We hope to empower them by letting them know that they will not be the only one who is sober at their celebration events!” Pictured above are YIA members Alana Wolf and Destin Moon beside one of the posters their group provided to the school. The poster reads, “Promises treasured, not tossed, cherished, not lost. This doesn’t have to be the last day you remember… Celebrate…Be Alcohol and Drug-Free!” For more information about YIA, contact at [email protected] or 301-334-7730.
