The COVID-19 testing requirement for travelers from and to Maryland continues to be in effect. This testing can be achieved through the Garrett County Health Department’s testing sites which have been maintained throughout the pandemic.

The Executive Order requires all Marylanders who travel outside of Maryland and individuals who travel to Maryland to immediately get a COVID test upon arrival in Maryland, or within 72 hours before travel to Maryland. Individuals are also strongly encouraged to get a second COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival in Maryland because of the virus’ incubation period.

“COVID-19 testing is important even if you have been fully vaccinated,” said Garrett County Health Officer Bob Stephens. “The existence of the new variants makes continued testing important. If a previously vaccinated person were to test positive for the virus, it is possible that a variant of the virus is the cause, and this would be something requiring further investigation.”

These testing requirements do not apply to travelers who pass through Maryland, with their final destination being another state. In addition, travel by Marylanders to the District of Columbia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia are exempt from this testing requirement.

Testing by the Garrett County Health Department is available at:

• MEDCO Building in the McHenry Business Park (46 Business Park Drive, Accident) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 3 pm. This testing is for anyone with or without symptoms, and a doctor’s order is not required. Preregistration is recommended to speed up the process on the testing day. Visit garretthealth.org for preregistration information.

• Garrett County Health Department’s office at 1025 Memorial Drive, Oakland, on Monday through Friday from 8:30 am – 2 pm. This testing is for people with or without symptoms, and an appointment is required. Call 301-334-7697 for an appointment.
