The Garrett County Health Department’s Just Like You! Program reminds all adults that youth are always watching what you do.
“Even older youth tend to follow in the footsteps of their adult role models,” said Linda Costello, Prevention Specialist at the Garrett County Health Department. “Show your kids the way to deal with sports injuries by using safer alternatives than opioids.”
Brandi Folk is using safer alternatives with her son Timothy when he hurt his leg playing basketball. Her treatment was to reach for an ice pack, encourage rest and, if needed, over-the-counter pain relievers like aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen.
