Garrett County Records Its First COVID-19 Related Death

The Garrett County Health Department received notification of the county’s first COVID-19 related death. In addition, they also received positive COVID-19 results for one additional person, bringing the current county total positives to 66. 

“We are sad to announce the county’s first COVID-19 related death,” said Garrett County Health Officer Bob Stephens. “The person who passed away was diagnosed early in the event. While COVID-19 was not the primary cause of death, it was a factor that contributed to the death, as were other chronic conditions.”

At the time of death, the individual was living in a nursing home in another Maryland county. However, the death is counted in Garrett because the decedent was officially a resident of Garrett County.

The new positive COVID-19 case is a female in her 30s who has symptoms and is isolating at home. There are currently 3 persons isolating in Garrett County due to COVID-19 positive tests.
