Join the Garrett County Health Department as we continue the 2024 Winter Activity Series in Grantsville at the JTF Ice Rink on January 25th, February 8th, and February 15th, for evening skate sessions from 7 to 9 p.m. Garrett County residents can skate for free for up to three additional sessions throughout the next several weeks. Registration information is available online at: https://bit.ly/free-community-events.
The Population Health, Innovation & Informatics Division of the Garrett County Health Department, Garrett County Government, and the Joint Training Facility are working together to help people stay active and connected this winter. Shelley Argabrite, MA, Senior Director of Population Health, Innovation, and Informatics for Garrett County, coordinated the partnership to provide more access to the county’s northern residents and resources.
Paul Edwards, County Commissioner, said, “Partnerships like these lay the foundation for sustainable changes in how Garrett County residents spend their leisure time with family.”
This kick-off event is part of a larger initiative to reinvest in local businesses to improve access to physical activity. Designed by Argabrite and her team in 2022 with $92,986 in funding from a competitive grant award through CareFirst.
“Reinvestment in local businesses is a significant component of GC In Motion. We are supporting the local economy and simultaneously making physical activity more accessible for our residents,” said Argabrite.
GC In Motion has served thousands of individuals at free events to date, empowering community members to connect and participate in activities at no cost.
To participate in free programs, sign up for a free account on GoGarrettCounty.com. Free events promoting physical activity and connectedness are a central part of the program portfolio, along with community step challenges and a new recipe challenge happening now. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity for you and your family!
We’re on a mission and continue looking for new partners to reinvest in local businesses and organizations through GC In Motion. Almost $40,000 has been awarded to local businesses through this funding series and another great year of community activities and reinvestment is planned.
