In Garrett County, Maryland, second graders learn about Making a Difference in their social studies curriculum. Mrs. Smith’s and Mrs. Martin’s second-grade classes sponsored a drive at Accident Elementary School from March 1st – March 15th to collect donations of socks, books, and blankets for the Healthy Families Program in Garrett County. These students wanted to give back to their community and decided this project would be a fabulous Caring and Giving Project for the whole school to participate in together. The school collected 634 items in total, with 477 of those items coming from the second grade! This project was a great way for students to learn more about Making a Difference in the lives of others while helping a local program serve families in Garrett County.
Healthy Families Garrett County is administered through the Early Care Programs Unit at the Garrett County Health Department. This voluntary home-visiting program empowers parents to give their children the best beginning in life! For more information, contact us at 301-334-7720.
