To all WIC participants: In light of the recent corona virus outbreak, WIC is changing the way it is providing services. For all individuals who have appointments from now until the end of April, WIC will be extending certification periods for at least 30 days. Food benefits will be issued for a minimum of one month up to as long as 3 months. WIC will send you an appointment reminder and shopping list indicating your current benefits. If you have a new baby or have never been on WIC before, federal regulation changes are currently in process in Congress allowing us to complete our process remotely. Until these changes are made we cannot add new people to the program. We ask that you have patience with us in this difficult time, and we will adjust our procedures as soon as we are given the okay by the federal and state authorities. Please continue to contact the WIC office at 301-334-7710, and we will be keeping a list of those individuals which we will serve as soon as we are able. The Garrett County Health Department will be closed to the public until further notice. This is a preventative measure in order to maintain continuity of vital operations and to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19.
