The Southern Garrett High School Youth in Action Team collaborated with the Club 21550 Community Planning Group to show the Chris Herren film βThe First Dayβ to Southern Middle School seventh grade students. The film addressed issues young people across the country are directly or indirectly impacted by daily, including substance use, mental wellness, and other harmful behaviors. The Youth in Action Team led group discussion before and after the film, using training they received through their peer to peer prevention education on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Pictured above from left to right are Youth in Action Team members Teresa Wolf, Marlysse Calling, Zhou Dong, Alexandra Schofield, Taylor Ashby, Kyus Spencer and Jalen Beeman. All students who attend Southern Garrett High School are welcome to join the Youth in Action Team. Service learning hours are awarded for participation in all activities.
