Mtn. Lake Partners, a Community Planning Group sponsored by the Garrett County Health Department (GCHD), held a free Bingo event at the Mtn. Lake Park town hall on Saturday, February 22nd.
โIt was our groupโs first Bingo, and it was very successful,โ said Katie Lucas, GCHD Outreach Worker. โWe will need a larger venue next time because the room was at capacity.โ
Town Councilman Patrick Damon was the bingo caller, and Mayor Don Sincell supplied extra tables and chairs for the crowd. Mtn. Lake Partners had an assortment of prizes, including gift cards, for winners. Free snacks and drinks were available.
The GCHD distributed information on upcoming Alzheimer’s programs, as well as containers to dispose of prescription pills that are no longer needed. The GCHD monthly message was โKeeping your Mind Healthy.โ
โI think we should hold more bingo nights,โ said Ellen Cowgill, the groupโs president, โbecause of the event’s popularity.โ
The group began two years ago with grant funding from GCHD. They hold public events for the community, including things like bowling, board games, fall festivals, Christmas parties, movie nights in Oakland, and summer splash pad parties.
Mtn. Lake Partners’ next event, scheduled for May 10th, will be a rock painting party at the splash pad at Leo Martin Park.
“All of our events are free, and it is a great place to meet people in our community,โ said Cowgill. โCome and paint a rock for your Mother’s Day present! We are also looking for more people to join our current dynamic small group of dedicated volunteers. We would like to expand so we can do more events and make a larger impact.”
