Where did you go to high school/college?
I attended Mountain Ridge High School. From there I attended Allegany College, and went on to attend Kaplan University for credits in Health Care Administration, but ultimately decided to switch my major and received my Bachelor’s in Business Management and Master’s in Business Administration from Western Governors University.
What was your path to your current job?
I spent some time in health care at Potomac Valley Hospital, from there I spent around four years working at Railey Mountain Lake Vacations, then at Morningstar before I found my way to my “home” at the Health Department.
What is your favorite part of your job or your biggest accomplishment?
My favorite thing about my job is getting to work with some of the most amazing and selfless people. I get to watch each one of them make a difference in the lives of others every day and it is truly such a blessing to be able to do the work that we do. Coming to work never feels like a “job” and it’s not lost on me that not everyone is lucky enough to feel that way in their careers.
What would staff from other units be surprised to find out about you?
There aren’t many things about me that are surprising because most people know I’m an open book, but something neat is that several years ago I participated in a paired exchange program in which I donated a kidney to a stranger so that my step father could receive a kidney transplant from another stranger since I was not a match to donate directly to him.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love cuddling my donkeys and spending time with my husband, two amazing kiddos, and other mini farm and regular animals.
What is your favorite quote or advice?
“My mission in life is not to merely survive but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelou
