Where did you go to high school/college?
I attended Preston High School and, right out of high school, attended Garrett College, where I earned an associate’s degree.
I went back to Garrett College in 2021 and completed the Medical Billing and Coding program.
What was your path to your current job?
I worked at Garrett County Lighthouse, Inc. for about 12 years. During that time, I held various positions, which included supervising their transportation department. I applied to the Garrett County Health Department in 2019 for the MA Transportation program. After only working within the program for 5 months, we were told that the program would be going away. Shortly after that, an opportunity arose for the HR position. With a lot of uncertainty and little time to train, 5 years later – here I am!
What is your favorite part of your job or your biggest accomplishment?
My favorite part of my job is meeting the new hires each week, greeting them with a smile, and telling them about the benefits of working here. I believe I can say my biggest accomplishment was navigating COVID-19 after only being in my job position for three months. The drastic changes to the way we worked, creating new and changing current policies, and just navigating a new “normal” were life-changing.
What would staff from other units be surprised to find out about you?
- I worked at the Pentagon in 2008.
- I love dressing up for Halloween, and Christmas is my favorite holiday.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy being with my family and friends, going to the beach, side-by-side riding, and visiting new places.
What is your favorite quote or advice?
Everyone gets to be young, but not everyone is lucky enough to get old.
