New Year’s Resolution
Letter To The Editor:
Start the year on a healthy note!
The staff at the Garrett County Health Department wants to help you make 2017 your healthiest year ever. If you are a little late making a New Year’s Resolution, let us make some suggestions:
If you are a smoker, make 2017 the year that you put it behind you for good. Former smokers will tell you that the key to quitting is a good support system. We have cessation classes, basically a peer support group of others just like you, which will meet weekly to talk about what works, and what doesn’t. New groups, start on Monday, January 9th at the Oakland office of the Garrett County Health Department, and Tuesday, January 17th, at the Grantsville office. Classes meet from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on the designated days. Attendance qualifies you for free cessation aides.
If you are concerned about making healthier food choices, we can point you in the right direction.
Wanting to exercise more, but don’t know what’s available? Call us for recommendations.
Small daily positive changes can add up to big improvements in health. Try these simple changes today. If you choose them enough days in a row, they may just become a habit! Add an extra fruit or vegetable to your meal, walk an extra few minutes tonight, choose water instead of soda with your dinner…
Call Health Education and Outreach at the Garrett County Health Department (301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111) to sign up for cessation classes, to find out more about healthy eating, or to learn about exercise programs in the county. A healthier you is right around the corner.
