The more serious outcomes of a COVID-19 infection include hospitalizations and death. This graph shows that the majority of Garrett County residents hospitalized with COVID-19 are not fully vaccinated. Risk of a serious outcome from a COVID-19 infection is based on individual factors such as age and co-existing medical conditions. Vaccination influences personal risk, greatly reducing the chances of the worst outcomes. While being fully vaccinated does not 100% eliminate the chance of hospitalization from COVID-19, this is not a reason to remain unvaccinated.
