Garrett County Food Network
Go! Garrett County

By Diane Lee, Public Information Officer, Garrett County Health Department

Children learn by watching you, even when you don’t realize it and whether we like it or not, they will probably do as you DO, not as you SAY.

“Model good behaviors for your children and show them the way you want them to live,” said Linda Costello, coordinator of the Garrett County Health Department’s Just Like You! campaign. “They see when you make healthy food choices, exercise, have a strong work ethic, show self-control, and help others. Choose not to use tobacco, drink excessively, abuse medication, or use illegal drugs.”

The campaign is designed to remind all adults how important it is for them to be a good example for healthy behavior for all the youth in their lives.

“What we do today, makes a big difference in our child tomorrow!” Costello added. “While you teach them how live life, teach them to say NO to alcohol and other drugs.”

The Just Like You campaign is administered by the Garrett County Health Department through funding from MDH and SAMHSA. For more information visit copycatfun.com or call Health Education and Outreach at 301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111.

Cutline: Just Like You! Remember, kids watch you and try to be like you, so show them how you make healthy choices in your life.  Mike Saturday, below, is shown working on a building project with his son, Isaac. Shaina Saturday, above, talks with her son Luke as they carefully cut up healthy snacks.
