Limited Supply of Free Shingles Vaccine Available at Garrett County Health Department
The Garrett County Health Department has secured a limited supply of shingles vaccine at no cost for persons aged 60 and older who are medically eligible.
To be medically eligible, persons must be age 60 or older and have no immune system disorders, not take any medications that weaken the immune system, not be undergoing cancer treatments (radiation or chemotherapy), not have active bone or blood cancers.Β Persons previously vaccinated do not need a second dose; currently, this is a one-time vaccine.
The vaccine will be given by appointment only at either the Oakland location at 1025 Memorial Drive, or the Grantsville location at 28 Hershberger Lane.
Interested persons should call 301-334-7770 or 301-895-3111 to schedule an appointment or to see if the vaccine is appropriate for them.Β Due to the limited number of doses, appointments will be taken on a βfirst call, first scheduledβ basis.Β Primary care providers can also answer questions about the shingles vaccine.
