SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is the term used to describe the sudden and unexpected death of a baby under one year old that has no known direct cause. Over 1000 of these fatalities occur each year in the United States. Researchers have found ways that reduce the risk of SIDS. One major way to reduce the risk of SIDS is to practice safe sleep habits with your baby. For any questions regarding this topic or other child safety information, you may contact Lacy Coffren in Early Care Programs at the Garrett County Health Department: 301-334-7720 or 301-895-3111.
