LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE II, Full-Time Contractual

Salary: $24.09 – $40.07/hour

The main purpose of this full time contractual position is to provide professional nursing care to mentally ill patients for behavioral health and recovery services and clients attending clinics for preventive or treatment services. This position works collaboratively under the supervision of the Clinic Director and the Medical Director to coordinate care and assist in treatment plans and perform related work for patients of the Behavioral Health Clinic.

Summary of job: 

Provides professional nursing care for patients with both mental health and substance abuse disorders and supports/assists providers deliver excellent patient care.  This position works collaboratively under the supervision of the Clinic Director and the Medical Director for all clinical and operational matters and works closely with other clinicians on all matters related to patient care.

Essential duties/responsibilities:

  • Obtains information from patients over the phone, assists where necessary, and directs/refers patients to other facilities or providers as directed
  • Assists with appointment scheduling for appointments and routine medication administration
  • Provides direct patient care, which includes obtaining vital signs and other duties as assigned
  • Performs nurse visits under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner, which include SQ/IM medication administration and medication counts as directed
  • Performs CLIA waived testing, including but not limited to toxicology tests and pregnancy tests
  • Assists as needed during medical emergencies
  • Ensures accuracy of documentation in EMR
  • Provides basic medical education to patients as directed/indicated
  • Participates in team meetings, department meetings, and in-services
  • Assists, as requested, in the development and amendment of nursing protocols
  • Assists in routine checks for equipment performance
  • Works to ensure seamless clinic operation
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families
  • Facilitates prescription medication refills at outside pharmacies as directed by the nurse practitioner. 
  • Documents all correspondence in EMR, including dispensing pharmaceutical medication samples as directed by the Nurse Practitioner
  • Provides resources to patients who are in need of pharmaceutical assistance due to financial / insurance barriers
  • Provides excellent patient-centered customer service while being friendly and courteous to all employees and patients
  • Prioritizes multiple tasks from start to completion
  • Assists with the development of treatment plans
  • Other duties as assigned

The preferred candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience working in a behavioral health/substance abuse setting
  • Experience with triage/prioritization skills
  • Experience effectively multitasking
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
