Where did you go to high school/college?
I attended Glen Burnie High School. After high school, I took two years of undergraduate courses at Anne Arundel Community College. I then attended Union Memorial School of Nursing in Baltimore for three years. Additional courses were taken at John Hopkins University in undergraduate studies. I graduated in 1978 with an RN degree.
What was your path to your current job?
I continued at Union Memorial Hospital working as an RN in the Cardiac Unit. I left Union Memorial two years later to take a position in the Cardiac unit at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore which was offering advanced Clinician training.
In 1982, my husband and I relocated to Garrett County. While raising my children, I worked at Garrett Memorial Hospital as an RN in the intensive care unit and later as a Supervisor. In 1992, I went to work for Hospice of Garrett County, first as a field nurse and then as the Director of Clinical services.
In 2014, I moved to the Garrett County Health Dept and began working in Home Health as a field nurse. While in Home Health, I became involved in the expansion of the MD Medicaid Program, which was better served under the AERS division. I transferred to AERS, working as a field nurse until I moved to my current position as the Director of Home Health in March of 2022. I have been blessed to be involved in all these programs which has allowed me to grow in my profession, but as I reflect, Hospice has always had my heart.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
My husband and I love to travel, whether to a campground in Garrett County, the castles of Scotland, or the wild frontier of Alaska. We enjoy making new friends and hanging out with long-time friends. I am also an avid reader, always with a book at my side.
What is your favorite quote or advice?
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
