Changes are coming to Medicaid.
During the COVID-19 public health emergency, Marylanders who were enrolled in Medicaid continued to be covered, even if they were no longer eligible.
Medicaid renewals will not be automatic this year. Starting in April 2023, Maryland will begin making Medicaid eligibility reviews again. Not everyone will be up for renewal at the same time. These renewals will take place over 12 months. Normal operations will resume in May 2024.
It is very important that Medicaid participants make sure their contact information is up to date so that they can receive and respond to important messages about their health insurance.
Frequently Asked Questions – Consumers
1. What does this mean for my Medicaid coverage?
Members will receive a notice prior to the end of their renewal period sometime over the next 12 months. To prepare, members should begin gathering information about themselves and other family members in their household to confirm eligibility. This includes:
- Birthdates
- Social Security Numbers (or document numbers for legal immigrants)
- Citizenship or immigration status
- Tax returns for previous years
- Employer and income info (pay stubs, W-2 forms)
- Policy numbers for any current health insurance and information about employer-sponsored coverage you or someone in your household is eligible for.
