Go! Garrett County

By Diane Lee, Public Information Officer, Garrett County Health Department

The Garrett County Health Department is bringing a recognized expert in trauma informed care to the county for a day-long training in June.

Lisa Ferentz, the founder of The Ferentz Institute, will present “Getting Through a Moment…Essential First Steps in Trauma Informed Care” on Monday June 26 at the Garrett County Performing Arts Center at Garrett College. Ferentz, who has been in private practice for more than 39 years, is a recognized expert in the strengths-based, de-pathologized treatment of trauma.

This training will explore what a trauma informed helping professional needs and introduce several creative treatment strategies, including affect regulation skills. A special emphasis will be placed on self-care for the helping professional.

Information presented at this training will be most relevant and useful for Mental Health Professionals, Victim Advocates, and Teachers. Various CEUs have been approved through AHEC West, Garrett College, and Allegany College of Maryland. Please visit bit.ly/gc-trauma for specific CEU and registration information. The deadline for registration is June 9, 2023. Call Sandy Miller at 301-334-7730 for more information.

This training is provided at no cost to participants and is sponsored by the Garrett County Health Department with funding made possible by the Garrett County Local Management Board through the Governor’s Office of Crime, Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services, MDH, and SAMHSA.
