Family Fishing Rodeo Held at Broadford Park
Club 21550 held their annual Family Fishing Rodeo in early June at Broadford Park. βThe weather that evening was wonderful, but fish were just not biting,β said Linda Costello, Garrett County Health Department Outreach Worker. βBut the young kids still had a chance to win gift cards and a fishing pole.β Pictured above are the winners for the event, including, on the left, 2-year-old Aydan Hanlin (with his mother, Katie Friend), and on the right, 4-year-old Sarah Hamilton (with parents Rick and Ruth). In addition to fishing, attendees were able to learn about the dangers of smokeless tobacco through participating in a scavenger hunt and viewing chalk talk about the dangers of using. Tobacco users were asked to pledge not to use during the rodeo, and gum and sunflower seeds were available during the event. Activities of community planning groups are supported in part by funds from the Garrett County Health Department to promote healthy living and prevent risky behaviors. The events are either free or low cost. Visit Club 21550βs Facebook page for information about upcoming events, or call 301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111 for information about community planning group activities in your area.
