Uno’s Restaurant and Bar Hosts Training for Responsible Service

Mar 12, 2019 | Press Releases

In preparation for the annual Deep Creek Dunk, Uno’s Restaurant and Bar hosted a responsible server training called TIPS, which stands for Training for Intervention ProcedureS, and is designed to promote the responsible service, sale, and consumption of alcohol.

Uno’s Restaurant and Bar, as well as participants from the Oakland Wine Walk, and Hart for Animals recently completed a three-year certification program designed to help prevent intoxication, underage drinking, and drunk driving by enhancing the fundamental “people skills” of servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol.

“Uno’s also agreed to implement the Alcohol Access and Service Best Practices Toolkit during the Maryland Special Olympics Deep Creek Dunk this year,” said Brenda Sisler, Prevention Coordinator at the Garrett County Health Department. “We assisted them with a checklist and safety suggestions that can help organizations assess the strengths and weakness of their existing policies and practices.”

“We always emphasize that reducing access to alcohol is only one element of a comprehensive approach to reducing underage drinking and related problems,” Sisler said. “Other key elements include strategies to reduce impaired driving and change overall community norms regarding the use of alcohol.”

Interested groups such as police departments, coalitions, volunteer fire department or other organizations which serve alcohol at their events are asked to contact Brenda Sisler at 301-334-7730 or [email protected] for more information about the Alcohol Access and Service Best Practices Toolkit and dates of upcoming free TIPS trainings.

These services are made possible through the MD Behavior Health Administration and SAMSHA.
