Free Showing of Recovery Boys Scheduled for September 14th

The public is invited to a free screening of the Netflix original documentary Recovery Boys on Friday, September 14, at 7 p.m. at Garrett College auditorium in McHenry. The college will provide free popcorn.
Recovery Boys is a feature-length documentary by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, Elaine McMillion Sheldon. The film presents a portrait of the lives of four men with substance use disorder as they seek treatment at Jacobโs Ladder, and independent treatment center in Aurora, West Virginia.
โI make this film not to victimize, pity or make excuses for individuals, but to uplift the stories of people who are actively trying to make change, no matter how big or small,โ McMillon Sheldon said. โRecovery Boys gives us an up-close look at the strength, brotherhood, and courage that it takes to overcome addiction and lays bare the internal conflict of recovery.โ
โWe are so excited to be able to bring this documentary to Garrett County,โ said Sadie Liller, Prevention Coordinator at the Garrett County Health Department. โSeveral of the cast members of Recovery Boys will be attending the showing, including Kevin Blankenship, the founder of Jacobโs Ladder.โ
Blankenship founded Jacobโs Ladder, a residential recovery facility for men, in response to the lack of options he and his family encountered as they navigated his sonโs recovery from substance use disorder.
The showing is a partnership between the Garrett County Drug-Free Communityโs Action Teams and Garrett College. For more information about the screening, call Sadie Liller at the health department at 301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111.
