Agencies collaborate to host Town Meeting on Opioid Use
The public is invited to attend a Garrett County Opioid Town Hall Meeting on June 14 at the Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad in Oakland beginning at 6 p.m.
The meeting is a collaboration between Garrett County Health Department, Community Action, and other concerned agencies and citizens. The group has called their initiative βStand Together β Garrett County Against Drug Abuse.β
βWe want to bring the community together for an open conversation about how drugs are affecting this community and what can possibly be done to help this issue,β said Sadie Liller, Prevention Coordinator, Garrett County Health Department. βThis will be the first of what we hope will be a series of town meetings, with other communities standing up to take initiative and do events in their communities.β
A second meeting has been scheduled for July 10 at the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department beginning at 6 p.m.
βWe are also hoping this initiative will draw support from community organizations, churches, and businesses as well has generate interest in individuals volunteering to be on our speakerβs bureau,β Liller said.
βCome out and share your concerns about drug abuse in your community,β said Gregan Crawford, Community Action Vice President. βLearn about substances and their effects, as well as what prevention, treatment, and recovery resources are available.β
