Several Demonstrations Scheduled for Health Fair

Several demonstrations will be included as part of the 2018 Garrett County Health Fair and Family Fun Festival scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 14, at the Garrett College CARC.

2018 Health Fair Demo: Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance (TJQMBB) –At 8:45 a.m. Rodney Durst, a 3 Year Tai Ji Quan instructor along with some of his students, will be giving a Tai Ji Quan demonstration.Tai Ji Quan is an evidence based exercise program that transforms martial arts movements into a therapeutic regimen aimed at improving postural stability, awareness and mindful control of body positioning in space, functional walking, movement symmetry and coordination, range of motion around the ankle and hip joints, and lower-extremity muscle strength. It can improve balance, strength, performance in functional walking activities and prevent falls in older and aging adults. Tai Ji Quan classes are offered twice a week at the Mary Browning Senior Center in Oakland and also at the Grantsville Senior center twice a week. 2018 Health Fair Demo: Jazzercise – The Oakland Jazzercise Center will be performing a fitness demonstration at 10 a.m. at the 2018 Garrett County Health Fair on Saturday, April 14th.Β  The Jazzercise demonstration will cover aerobic and strength training exercises in both high and low impact and intensity variations.Β  You will see that there is a version for every fitness level!Β  Jazzercise raises the bar on fitness and helps you rise to the challenge.Β  It’s where sweat, swagger and endorphin-packed workouts come together to get you results fast! 2018 Health Fair Demo: REFIT – at 11 a.m. Christie Reckart & Shannon Baker will demonstrate REFIT. Christie has been teaching REFIT classes in Garrett County since February 2017, and was recently joined by Shannon. REFIT welcomes people of all ages and abilities. REFIT is for the willing, not the fit. Each class includes 50 minutes of exercise alternating from, kick boxing, mixed-cardio, and toning. Four REFIT classes are offered each week and participants may attend as many as they desire. Schedule: Deer Park Community Building, Mondays, 6-7 p.m.; Crellin Assembly of God, Tuesdays, 6-7 p.m.; Loch Lynn former Church of God building, Thursdays, 6-7 p.m.; and Crellin Assembly of God, Fridays, 6-7 p.m. All of the music has a positive message, and attendees are encouraged toward personal growth as well as physical fitness. 2018 Health Fair Demo: Strength Training – at Noon, Garrett College CARC Group Fitness Staff will explain the importance of strength training and will demonstration a routine you can do with items you already have at home. Come see how you can strengthen your fitness routine.
