Accident Fishing Rodeo Nets Big Fish

Jun 8, 2017 | Press Releases

More than 120 people participated in the Accident Fishing Rodeo recently held at the Town Pond, and sponsored by the Accident Community Planning Group and the Wild Turkey Federation. β€œThe Accident Community Planning Group was thrilled with the great day for fishermen and the family event,” said Sharon Custer, Community Outreach Worker for the Garrett County Health Department. β€œA special thanks to everyone who attended and to our partners who made this event possible, including the Wild Turkey Federation, Town of Accident, Fish Hatchery from Accident, and Zion Lutheran Church.” Fishing was especially successful for the two young fisherman pictured above. At left is A.J. Bliss, from Accident, age 8, who caught one of the larger fish of the day, weighing in at 4 pound and was 20.25 inches long. At right is Caleb Yoder, age 10, and his father Dwight Yoder, from Swanton. His fish also weighed 4 pounds and was 20 inches long. In addition to fishing, participants received free refreshments, chances to win door prizes, and information about the dangers of tobacco use, and an upcoming special class to help smokeless tobacco users quit. Activities of community planning groups are supported in part by funds from the Garrett County Health Department to promote healthy living and prevent risky behaviors. For more information about planning groups, or about tobacco cessation classes call 301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111.
