FREE Car Seat Check w/ a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician – August 15, 2023

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available at Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad in Oakland on August 15th to provide Car Seat Checks for interested persons. These checks will be held by appointment, with drive ups only being accepted if time permits.

Appointments will take 30 to 45 minutes per car seat, while technicians complete a check-list and assist parents or caregivers in learning how to install and use their car seat correctly. Seat checks work best if participants have the seat installed when they arrive. Also, if the child is not along for the appointment, have their height and weight available to assist in correct fit. Appointments are sped up when participants also have their car seat and vehicle owner’s manuals available.

“We are so excited to be able to provide this car seat check opportunity to families in Garrett County,” said Jennifer VanPelt, Car Seat Coordinator in the Early Care Program of the Garrett County Health Department. “This is the best way to make sure you are using your child’s car seat correctly.”
