Starting today at noon, residents who are at least 75 years old will be able to use a link on garretthealth.org to register for appointments to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine. The link will be available until the clinic is fully booked.
The number of available appointments reflect the number of doses of vaccine allocated to Garrett County Health Department for this week. Registrations will only be honored for anyone who is age 75 and older, or for anyone not yet vaccinated in the Priority Group 1A, including healthcare and first responders, and as long as available doses remain. If you are a Phase 1A worker, bring your work ID to the vaccination appointment.
“The best way to register for an appointment will be to go to garretthealth.org and click on the link,” said Garrett County Health Officer Bob Stephens. βThe link will be removed from the website when the appointments are fully booked. We remind the community to be patient while we wait for scarce vaccine to be allocated to Garrett County by the State. The continued practices of masking, distancing, and avoiding gatherings remain essential to our success as a community.β
Although Priority Group 1B includes K-12 teachers, education staff, and childcare providers, Garrett County will not yet be scheduling appointment for this group because of the limited availability of vaccine. Governor Hogan emphasized in his recent press conference that high-risk senior citizens must be prioritized.
βOnce we have vaccinated the 75 and older age group, we will announce when and how we will move on to other priority groups,β said Stephens. “Because we have a limited supply of vaccine, we are initially concentrating on those who are most at risk for severe complications or death if they would contract the virus.”
While COVID-19 vaccinations continue, all Marylanders must work together to keep slowing the spread of COVID-19. Keep on wearing your mask, watching your distance and washing your hands. Get tested and quarantine if you expect exposure or have symptoms.
