Go! Garrett County

By Diane Lee, Public Information Officer, Garrett County Health Department

Two lucky attendees of the 411 Parent Rally at Northern High School at the end of November won Family Packages of tickets to a West Virginia Basketball game. The tickets were door prizes available to the group of parents who gathered to learn about common trends and threats that youth are facing. Lt. Michael Sigmund, Maryland State Police (MSP), and Northern High School’s Resource Officer DFC Jenna Wilt shared information about drug threats that are common in Garrett County. Joe Dugan, MSP Internet Crimes Against Children, informed the group about the increasing internet dangers facing youth. In addition, staff from the Garrett County Health Department provided a mock teen bedroom for adults to browse through and discover telltale signs that a teen might be experimenting with or regularly using drugs. Pictured above, center, is Linda Costello, Prevention Specialist at the Garrett County Health Department, presenting Jen Knauff, left, and Pebbles Perez, right, with their WVU basketball tickets. In the photo below are, from left to right, are Costello, Dugan, Lt. Sigmund, DFC Wilt, and Kendra McLaughlin, Director of Health Education and Outreach at the health department.
