A series of exercise demos are schedule at the Garrett County Health Fair and Family Fun Festival on April 13th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Garrett College CARC. A Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance demo is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Tai Ji Quan is an evidence based exercise program that transforms martial arts movements into a therapeutic regimen aimed at improving postural stability, awareness and mindful control of body positioning in space, functional walking, movement symmetry and coordination, range of motion around the ankle and hip joints, and lower-extremity muscle strength. It can improve balance, strength, performance in functional walking activities and prevent falls in older and aging adults. Tai Ji Quan classes are offered at various times at the Mary Browning Senior Center in Oakland and the Grantsville Senior. Call the centers for more information on times.
