In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness month, some of the staff of Health Education and Outreach at the Garrett County Health Department wore pink to work on Friday, October 22nd. According to the American Cancer Society, in the U.S., one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her life, a statistic that has proven true among Health Education and Outreach staff where three women out of the staff of 22 received that breast cancer diagnosis within the last five years. In each case, the cancer was diagnosed in an early stage through routine mammography. Over 3.5 million breast cancer survivors are alive today thanks to advances in screening, detection and treatment.
