Friendsville Community Watch began hosting Family Rec Nights in Friendsville Park each Thursday evening for four consecutive weeks beginning May 19th.
Families were invited to “get your steps in, play some games, move your body, make a craft, have a little snack, win prizes, talk, laugh, have fun!” When rain messed up the plans one night, the fun moved into the community center instead.
May attendees participated in prevention activities to learn about the dangers of underage drinking and how to reduce the risk of underage drinking and prescription drug misuse among youth by storing, monitoring, and securing alcohol and medication properly in the home. June participants learned about the risks of smoking and vaping, how it can quickly lead to nicotine addiction, and the dangers of nicotine.
“There’s still one more day of Family Rec, so join us on June 9th,” said Christy Thomas, Outreach Worker from the Garrett County Health Department. “There’s lots to keep you busy. We have an awesome time exercising and learning together.”
