Everyone has a lot on their minds these days, with health concerns because of COVID-19, and maybe financial concerns from losing a job or even a business.  Whether or not you have changes in your job situation, you now have an extended opportunity to obtain health insurance if you are not covered.

Maryland Health Connection announced yesterday that the Coronavirus Emergency Special Enrollment Period deadline has been extended through June 15. Applications for Maryland Medicaid may also be submitted at any time.

Marylanders may enroll in health plans by:

  • Visiting MarylandHealthConnection.gov, the “Enroll MHC” mobile app
  • Calling 1-855-642-8572
  • Calling Garrett County Health Department’s Maryland Health Connection office – 301-334-7720. Phone calls only, no walk-ins
  • Calling AHEC West at 888-202-0212

“Take this special opportunity to make sure your family is covered by a qualified health insurance plan,” said Maria Friend, Director of Early Care at the Garrett County Health Department. “It’s one less thing you’ll need to worry about.”

In addition, on March 30, Governor Hogan issued an Executive Order authorizing the Maryland Secretary of Health to waive premium payments for those enrolled in the Employed Individuals with Disabilities Program and/or the Maryland Children’s Health Program. This waiver will expire immediately at the termination of the national state of emergency.

Health leaders continue to ask people to take COVID-19 very seriously and to limit unnecessary social exposure by staying home, washing your hands, remaining home if you are mildly sick, and following the CDC’s guidance.

Patients with COVID-19 have experienced mild to severe respiratory illness. Symptoms can include fever, cough and shortness of breath.  Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.  Call your provider if you develop symptoms and have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19, or if you live in or have recently been in high exposure areas.

Accurate COVID-19 information is critical to the community. For the most current and accurate information about the situation, please refer to the following:
