Residents within the 21550 zip code area have a unique opportunity to help plan fun, family-friendly events for their communities.

β€œIf your zip code is 21550, you have the choice between participating in one of three different Community Planning Groups,” said Venessa Stacy, Outreach Supervisor at the Garrett County Health Department (GCHD). β€œJoin us at one of our Meet and Greets to learn more and help us plan YOUR events!”

Community Planning Groups, or CPGs, are run by community members who plan and implement family-friendly events that promote healthy lifestyles and discourage high risk behaviors.

Two of the groups are holding Meet and Greet events next week to welcome new members and organize for the upcoming year.

The Mountain Lake Park Community Planning Group will meet on June 20th at the Broadford Park Pavilion #3. Katie Lucas, Outreach Worker at GCHD, will be available during three different timeslots in a β€œcome and go” Meet and Greet. Stop in during any of these times: from 9-11 a.m., 1-3 p.m., or 5-7 p.m. There will be a $4 per car charge to enter the park. This group is just getting established and welcomes any interested person from the area to come with ideas and question.

The Club 21550 Community Planning group will meet on June 21st at the Glades Park Pavilion from 5:30-7 p.m. Current members of this established group welcome new participants and will lead a discussion about past activities and new ideas. This group is being led by Heather Berg, Outreach Work at GCHD.

A third CPG in the 21550 zip code area is established in Crellin and holds ongoing activities throughout the year. This group welcomes new members and participants from the Crellin area. For more information visit the Crellin Outreach Partnership Facebook page or call the health department at the numbers below and ask for Kristen Walker.

In past years, community planning groups have organized family activities such as beach parties, bowling nights, fall festivals, breakfast with Santa, fishing rodeos, movie nights and much more.

For more information about CPGs in Garrett County call the Health Education and Outreach at the Health Department at 301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111.
